Course Objective

1.Solve complicated and time consuming problems related to extractive metallurgy by the use of personal computers and their knowledge of Fortran or Pascal or C programming language. 2.Do analysis of metallurgical data, explain and comment on the computer outputs using their knowledge of extractive metallurgy. 3.Write a computer program in the field of metallurgy in general or extractive metallurgy in particular.

Course Content

A sampling of extraction metallurgical problems that are solved by computers. Scientific and research applications; analysis of metallurgical data, process simulation and control. The examination of selected examples of computer usage will suggest how other complicated time consuming problems can be solved.

Learning Outcomes

Students apply their knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid flow, heat transfer, stoichiometry and heat balance to the solution of time consuming and complicated problems related to extractive metallurgy.
