Course Objective

This course aims mainly to cover extraction of ferroalloys from ores of some non-ferrous metals containing also iron or added intentionally. Production of pure metals by halide metallurgy is also taught, since some ferroalloys can be used for this purpose. It is also intended in this course for graduate students to solve some problems related to ferroalloys, using their thermochemistry knowledge.

Course Content

Production of ferro-alloys by carbothermic reduction, with special emphasis on ferro silicon; Production of ferro alloys by metallothermic and vacuum reduction techniques; Detailed explanation of ferro- chromium, manganese titanium, vanadium, tungsten and molybdenum production; Halide metallurgy; Production of volatile metals especially zinc and magnesium.
